There are more than 1 million Americans and a half million Canadians living in Mexico. Plus, folks from the rest of the world. And there are expat havens all over the country.  Generally, any place where expats and tourists go is pretty safe, with people mostly worried about petty crime like pickpockets or car break-ins.

to San Miguel de Allende! I used to live in Colonia Allende… a little side street off Calle de Las Flores. It can be a bit of a walk into centro but doable, as you say. 

There are LGBTQ+ tourists and expats all over Mexico, traveling and living happily. But there are certain locations that are especially welcoming to people from these communities.

With its arts and culture, stellar dining scene, beautiful architecture, and more... Mexico City’s a world-class metropolis worth the time it takes to get to know it. It’s split into colonias, like independent neighborhoods, each of them with its own specialty and vibe. 

I've both driven and flown into Mexico with my dogs. Both processes are fairly straightforward. In both cases, no special forms, health certificates, or applications are needed to enter Mexico.
