Can I Receive My Australian Pension in Greece?

Marilyn A. Says:

Could I live in Greece, and still keep receiving my Australian full pension?

IL Correspondent and Australian Citizen Bel Woodhouse Says:

Hi Marilyn,

Good news! Yes, you can receive your Australian Pension while living abroad. To receive the pension, you have to meet the Australian residency rules which you can find here.

Greece is one of many European countries Australia has an agreement with for expats living abroad. That means you can live in Greece and still receive your pension. If you would like to read the specifics on Greece, you can download the Greece PDF here.

I would advise reading the information about partial payments very carefully. Depending on if you are working or living abroad the amount you receive may change. To read all of the specifics on how much you are entitled to, please read this carefully for how much you can get.

The only other thing of note is that if you are living outside of Australia on a long-term or permanent basis then here is the information about pension rates paid outside of Australia.

And lastly, if you are still in Australia, and not yet living a wonderful Mediterranean life, then here’s what you need to do before you go to receive your pension. It’s as easy as opening a Centrelink account and creating an account on myGov to make sure you can track all payments while overseas.

Centrelink even has an app to help make it easy. Watch this little 30-second video to show you how it works to help make your life easier while overseas.
