After returning home from International Living's Retire Overseas Bootcamp Conference, I couldn't help but notice that the pace of activity had cranked up while I was in Las Vegas. Mid-November is when the tourist season kicks off in Belize and it lasts until around April.

If you read the August edition of your Belize Insider you'll know that my husband and I had to delay our return trip from Colorado to Ambergris Caye by a few days due to Hurricane Earl. Last weekend, I had a chance to check out the beach, where most of the damage occurred. I'm happy to report that, although this Category 1 hurricane did a lot of damage to docks and structures over sea, things are already getting back to normal.

Hurricane Earl landed on Belize's shores on August 3. It's been over 15 years since a hurricane made an impact in northern Belize. We really don't get that many direct hits here. Most hurricanes in Belize occur between mid-September and the end of the season, so Earl was even more unusual.
