Green, lush, and clean: Matagalpa is the name given to both a department and city in the highlands of Nicaragua. Because of its elevation, Matagalpa has a more temperate climate than some other popular locations in Nicaragua—IL Correspondent, Bonnie Hayman, says it’s similar to that of San Diego. Because of the temperate climate, Matagalpa is often referred to as the “Land of Eternal Spring.” Expect average daily high temperatures of between 65 F and 75 F year-round.
