Do I Need to Get Vaccines to Visit Costa Rica?

John C. Says:

We’re planning a one-week Costa Rica vacation in July. Four adults, three teenagers. What inoculations are recommended?

IL Costa Rica Correspondent Bekah Bottone Says:

Hi John,

No vaccines are required when entering Costa Rica from the US, Canada, or Europe.

The CDC recommends hepatitis A, hepatitis B, typhoid, yellow fever, and rabies shots.

If you’re entering Costa Rica from a South American or African country where yellow fever is endemic, then you’ll need to show proof of that vaccine.

Routine vaccinations for residents of Costa Rica are meningitis, polio, measles, mumps and rubella (MMR), Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis), chickenpox, shingles, pneumonia and influenza.

Additionally, if you plan to visit the Caribbean coast, you may wish to use prescription medication to prevent Malaria.

You can see the full breakdown of all CDC recommendations here.

While you’re in here in July, you might also want to swing by the InterContinental Costa Rica Hotel in San José and join us for our Fast Track Costa Rica Conference taking place July 18-20.
