Does Housesitting Work for Single Men?

Rick O. Says:

As a retired single male I’d like to know how homeowners would react to me sitting at their homes as opposed to couples applying to do so?

Housesitting Expert Yvonne Bauche Says:

Hi Rick,

It’s true that mature couples are usually preferred by many homeowners. However that’s not always the case as single sitters are often requested.

This could be because it’s a small apartment, single bed etc. or because the owner just prefers to have one person staying in their home. This means that there is a demand for single sitters, especially mature ones.

In our course, my husband Michael and I recommend that sitters address any potential concerns that the owners could have about them right from the beginning.

For instance, the thought of a single male might cause owners to think that they will be out all the time, or might bring companions home. Therefore it’s important to stress your good traits, such as being clean and tidy, respectful of others property and a homebody who enjoys spending time with a book or a good movie.

We personally know both male and female single sitters who are very much in demand as sitters.
