I just watched a video of a cheerful elderly lady explaining how affortable living in Algarve is; $1200/month for 1 bedroom apartment, $3000 total monthly expences and she gets by with just $7300 per month in a villa with a pool. I might be in totally wrong group here, I’m a single woman close to retirent and my fixed income would be under $2000 a month. Eventually I would like to buy a place, what ever that might be or what I can affort. Am I the only one who find these number “not so affortable” ?

Ritta: Totally agree that 7k / month expenses is not what most of us want to spend.
Myself, I am looking for a Winter getaway, from Michigan, for 2 months or so from Mid January to Mid March potentially in the Algarve. I am going on a “Scouting Mission” end of February, 2026 for 12 days to get a lay of the land.
For myself and my wife I was thinking more like 4-5k maximum / month with rental car. Let’s keep digging all. Thank you.

Terry, not sure when your summary written, thank you.
I am going on a scouting mission, solo, end of February, 2026 to get a lay of the land. Flying into Lisbon, renting a car. Then to Nazare, hopefully to see the Big Waves. Thereafter, work my way down the coast, Lisbon day or 2 then Southern West coast then Algarve for detailed digging on locations, outdoor activities, rent cost for 2 months Winter time Mid-January to Mid-March (michigan native). Thereafter, possibly my wife will want to get out of the cold. WEATHER temps WONDERFUL there and to my liking.
Any suggestions would be most welcome. Thank you. Bob M

Hi Don, I have Médis which I love but for pre-existing conditions and if you’re over 70, Mgen is the one that people recommend. You can also contact Celia Fernandes at Whiz for a free consultation and you don’t have to pay anything to get your insurance through her. teamwhiz@whiz-pt.pt
