I am a US Citizen, and received my French birth certificate 15 years ago through descent (My mother was born in the Bordeaux region). I am now retired and would like to get my french passport and move to france. I’m looking for some direction, and a resource who can provide some guidance.

    Hi Catherine,
That’s great news for the French birth certificate. Since it is a citizenship issue, the best thing that you can do is contact a French immigration attorney. Here is the contact person that IL has been working with (he’s an American with an American law degree and a French law degree): https://www.danieltostado.com/

    Hi Tuula,

I have French in my DNA through my Mom and my Grandpa, her Dad, however neither one was born there in France. My Mom was born here in the US like me and my Grandpa was born in Ontario, Canada. I do know I have French ancestors from France, mainly the Brittany/Normandy area and from Provence. I don’t know if I have any direct ancestors. I do know a little French from taking it in high school and college but not enough to get me by there. I plan on brushing up on French though. I have always loved France. My husband and I are planning to make a trip there in April or May of this next year (2026). We are already retired and we would like to spend a month or two to scout a location to live part of the year. I was wondering if you could put us in touch with a contact there to help us find a place to rent while we’re there and help us make a move there?
