My wife and I are flying into Guayaquil and will take a van or bus to Cuenca for our month-long house-hunting trip. I’ve been told that the vans are pretty good and are inexpensive. Busses also seem to be fine. I would like to be able to make a reservation ahead of time. Is that possible to do from the US? Any recommendations on which companies are good?
I looked at some of the private drivers and vans, but for what they want, we might as well just fly from Guayaquil to Cuenca.
April 13, 2014 at 8:20 am #554957EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantThe van services have been on shaky ground for some time because of ongoing complaints from the bus companies about stealing their passengers. Sometimes the police are pulling the vans over and making all the passengers get out. Yikes! Here’s a link to the bus companies: http://www.ecuadorschedules.com/. They’re safe, cheap, and comfortable. If you go this route be sure and book an “executive” bus–they are more modern and arrive quicker. Both the van companies and the bus terminal are right next to the airport. Safe travels!

Let me know if you’re interested, and I can give you the info for a great driver pick up (in a nice car with a good, safe, US expat driver). We use him a lot for when we’ve needed to go to/and or from Guayaquil. Also, the drive (depending on time of day and the fog) can be lovely as the route goes through the Cajas National Park.
April 29, 2014 at 6:38 pm #561719GARY POLLICEMemberThanks Andrea. We’re going to take the bus I think. It seems to be the simplest option, and one that will be reasonably comfortable. We’re definitely getting excited for the trip.

Willing to pay for English Speaking experienced driver who will make his own arrangement for accommodations but be prompt & courteous.
