My husband and I are looking into moving aboard or having long term stays abroad in the near future (2-4 years). He is a dual British and American citizen who is closer to retirement than I am. One option is the UK, where I could perhap continue to work (if I can find work in my late 50s/early 60s) on a spousal visa. We are also considering Portugal (D7) but fear that it won’t be available for much longer, France, and Greece, where I lived briefly as a child. Untourism sounds awesome, too, but it sounds like it could get out of hand expensewise pretty easily.

He also have a daughter to consider. She is extremely bright and currently away at college on her own, but she also is a high functioning (for lack of a better term) autistic person. She will always need us a little more than your average child might. She is not opposed to the idea of us moving a broad, so long as there is a place for her in the plan. And we agree. At least for the next ten years or so, she will be our “satelite” child.

I know this is an introduce yourself post, but if you could guide me to forums that related to any of these issues, I would appreciate it.

Direct question: has anyone in this group ever hired an immigration lawyer to figure out the best path?

PS: My husband is a dual national who has not lived in the UK since he was an infant.
