My husband and I would like to live in Ecuador for a year to explore where we would like to settle. We find info stating you can only get a visa for three months and see it is not a good idea to try to just leave the country for a few days And then return for another three months. Anyone know how to do what we would like to without running into difficulties?

You can enter the country on a 90-day tourist visa and then apply for a 12-IX visa which gives you an additional 180 days in the country. By doing this you could stay for close to nine months in Ecuador. I don’t know of any way to stay a full year without getting some sort of residency visa.
