MemberHello, hubby and I thnking of leaving US and moving to Portugual. Our tentative plan is to visit
for 90 days and determine if and where this idea is plausible. Sometimes I get really excited about
the idea, and other times I think we are nuts. I can retire, hubby too young. Anyone else thinking
along these lines, even other countries? US doesn’t feel like our place anymore.July 17, 2025 at 5:11 pm #735075Roswitha Morgan
ParticipantMy husband and I are also doing a scouting trip to Portugal and Spain in September. I am retired but like you Stephanie, my husband is too young! We are looking at the Algaves as I don’t like the cold weather! We have sold our house, staying with friends, and ready to move when we find a place to rent in September! Anyone have any contacts with Leasing agents who may be able to give us some help when we are there?

ParticipantSpending the winter scouting Europe. Also thinking about SE Asia. Building up our passive income and applying for my EU passport as my parents were European. We’ll have enough to retire there, can’t here though, and it doesn’t feel like my America these days.

ParticipantTry on line search for long-term rentals in Portugal or long-term stays in Portugal. Idealista has many listings for apartments, houses, vilas in Portugal by area of interest. There are several other websites listing properties, but I found Idealista to be the most complete.

ParticipantMy America is returning; but cost overseas are more friendly to “average” retirement incomes. I’m thinking of Portgual as well but have no concrete plans yet.

ParticipantMy husband and I have a trip to Portugal planned in May 2026 to see if that could be our new place to retire to. He is retired and i will retire early in March. We are so excited with what life there might be like. Focused on Braga abd Porto at the moment. Everything we’ve seen and read make it sound like our place.
We are trying to decide whether to sell our home here in the states. We can’t rent it out otherwise that would be perfect.
Would love to hear how your adventure goes, if you find a place that is accepting of expats and any other helpful tips you fond in your search.August 10, 2025 at 9:15 pm #735619Lissa Jennings
ParticipantMy husband and I have visited Portugal over the last 2 years and loved it both times. We visited several areas but once he retires we plan to explore more and also visit other countries to see what we like the most. We loved Nazare and Porto but realize there are many other areas so we’re keeping an open mind.
