EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipant
I’d suggest booking the flight through a local travel agent and then reimbursing them.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantLarry, the visa process continues to improve and quite likely will be even better by the time you plan to apply for residency. No need to travel to DC–you can get everything done here once you arrive with your proper documentation. There’s no “bad” time to come to Ecuador, but July is often the coolest and rainiest month of the year.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantMitchell, your passport is indeed good for 90 days.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantSonya, I’m surprised to see your comment about lack of info for Ecuador. Trust me, there’s information overload compared to what was out there five years ago! Don’t count on predictable data about our seasons. Locals say the patterns have changed considerably. Here in Cuenca we’ve had consistent rainy, overcast weather for the last two months–in the middle of the “dry” season.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantMichael, I posted a reply yesterday but it seems to have vanished. The idea of 20 days in a hotel room sounds painful. A furnished studio would be cheaper and more comfortable, even if you pay for an entire month. In addition to Suzan’s suggestions, also take a look at vrbo.com. And send posts to GringoTree and Gringo Post here stating your needs. Someone may have just what you want.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantThere are tons of volunteer opportunities in Cuenca. And if you don’t find one that suits you, you can start your own. That’s exactly what all the other founders did!
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantNuts! I never do that link thing correctly. http://www.clubcorreos.com.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantJohn, you won’t be surprised to learn that mail service is also unreliable in Ecuador. For small packages, check out . I’ve never personally used it (we go back to the States pretty often) but some of my amigos have had success with it.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantNeither Suzan nor I live on the coast or play golf. Whatever you see on the Internet is the same info we have access to. Perhaps she knows something further.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantSuzan’s advice is good. Please don’t move into my neighborhood in Cuenca with all that livestock you were asking about–especially NO roosters! 😉
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantJust go to their websites and download. Basic USTVNow is free–ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX–with many others available for a monthly fee. I’ve never used USFreeTV so check it out too.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantI don’t even know if Dish TV is a choice here, but NCAA sports in general aren’t shown on DirecTV. Bowl games and March Madness level events are aired though. You can stream US channels through USTVNOW.com which could open up some options for you. Pro baseball, basketball, and football are on. And of course there’s soccer——-.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantAnd here’s even more from the local newspaper. Looks like the van services are done.
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantI’m sure it’ll be $100+. Here’s an update on express bus service announced just today.
Nonstop service 8 times per day on clean, modern buses and only $8 per person. Schweet!
EI EXPERT – EDD STATONParticipantThree options now: taxi, bus, or plane.
