ParticipantHere’s a “what if”. What if we had already paid in advance for our lodging in Cotacachi and/or Cuenca, and upon arriving in Ecuador this weekend, we were to discover that we had been “taken to the cleaners”. What recourse, if any, would we have to retrieve our funds paid in advance?

I am trying to rent an apartment in Cuenca from an Ecuadorian real estate agent for a one month visit. She tells me that I need to send her the full payment by depositing the money to her name through Western Union. She then gave me her Western Union ID number. Having never done this before, I am just being extra cautious!

I found an 8 page article, written by Jackie Flynn, entitled “This Retirement Haven Has It All …”. In it he lists 12 or more practical, useful helps with being a member. One of these was a list of eight things you don’t want to be without, whether traveling for a week or six months. I have searched all over Ecuador Insider but cannot find this article. Can anyone help me? My wife and I are planning a 2 month trip to Ecuador early in 2017 and want to make sure we have everything we need when we come.

My wife and I are planning on visiting Cotacachi and Cuenca for 4-6 weeks each later this year. I would greatly appreciate a copy of your notes from Ecuador Insider. Lately we have been looking at requirements for applying for a 9-I Pensioner’s Visa. I already have a list of questions that are probably answered in what you have copied. ParticipantI am certainly not an expert on anything in Ecuador, but my wife and I did attend last month’s Fast-Track Ecuador Conference in Quito. I remember hearing David Prescher (Cotacachi) say something about that subject. If my memory serves me, he said that you could bring a car but it could not be any older that one or two years. You might try checking with him.
