My wife and I had our first Panama adventure this past week. We intend to retire there someday soon. Based on what we had read in Panama Insider, we decided to drive from Panama City to David. I’m curious which Perfectly paved Pan-American highway Jessica is referring to. Because the Pan-American Highway that we drove on was well paved for about 65% of the distance. The other 35% was a two lane highway that was in fair to poor condition and under massive construction/reconstruction. It most certainly took more than six hours to travel the distance. I would recommend that you fly to David because the busses were pretty much holding up other already slow traffic as they traversed the narrow, winding road that meandered along the mountainous route. When the Pan-American Highway that WE drove on is finished, which likely years from now, it will be a nice drive from Panama City to David.

By the way, we will be in Panama again in April and November to continue our quest to retire there some day.
