I’m responding to the member who’s granddaughter in her 20’s will be visiting. We met lots of people in their 20’s at Ian Anderson’s Caves Branch Resort in the rain forest just south of Belmopan. See http://www.cavesbranch.com. This is an adventure resort at which people go to do many kinds of adventure tours every day. For breakfast and dinner the staff seats everyone at 8-person tables, and you’re assigned a different table for each meal. You get to meet lots of different people this way, talk about what you’ve done and what you’re planning plus get to know each other. It was a wonderful place that we thoroughly enjoyed!

According to the website of The Placencia (see http://theplacencia.com/airport) they are building a private international airport in Riversdale (see http://theplacencia.com/vision/master-plan), where owners will even be able to have private jet hangars. They’re calling it the Placencia International Airport. Considering the backing of this project, it looks to me as if this airport is becoming a reality. The runway can be seen on Google Earth.

Thanks, Ann. I don’t remember where I read about the Four Seasons. In every country where tourism is still in the early stages of development, there are lots of rumors, so I’m not surprised about this. Your evaluation about what’s economically and physically possible in Belize make sense. Those are all reasons why we’re so interested in this country. We like small and boutique.

Thanks for this information, Ann. I’ve noticed that after a few months in various locations I’ve acquired immunity to the local mosquitoes, but I haven’t been anywhere with sand flies long enough to have noticed that the same thing happens with them. That’s good to know. I believe that sand flies live only along the beach where there’s sand, and raking the sand every day does minimize them. Most likely there are fewer mosquitoes along the coast and more inland.

We need to explore Belize more to determine where our most desirable place might be. We’ve been to all the major areas, but only for a few days in each area. There’s a lot of diversity, which we like.
