Question: What is the best time of year to see the coast? I understand that Manta is less rainy than other areas.
I will do more research on the beach towns you mentioned above. The main thing is that I want to be near other Expats.Sincerely,

As of this point in time, I’m thinking of the coast between Salinas and Manta, but I’m also thinking of Vilcabamba or Loja.
I hope this helps. I currently live in San Diego, California and I love the ocean, but I’m open to living in the highlands of
Vilcabamba or Loja.Thanks,
MikeMICHAEL R.MemberHey Ecuador Expats.
When I leave for Ecuador, I plan to bring 3 or 4 large suitcases (That’s It). I will sell everything I own and start fresh in Ecuador. Shipping costs would be way to high to bring all the items I own. Things like photographs and personal mementos will come with me, but all cooking appliances, electronics, camping and etc, will all be sold or donated. This makes it far easier to travel and get settled in Ecuador. I understand women are different from men and we all have are own needs and wants. But if you have a lot of stuff, sometimes it’s better to start over fresh with a new life .. in a new country.

San Diego, CaliforniaMay 5, 2015 at 12:57 pm in reply to: Can ATM, Credit Cards and Debit Cards from Amercian Banks Be Used in Ecuador ?? #611312MICHAEL R.MemberHey Guys
When I said to use Traveler Checks or International Money Orders, I was talking about using them to deposit the money
into a bank account in your local town or city. I wouldn’t expect local small businesses to cash or honor Traveler Checks or International Money Orders. The checks or money orders would only be used to prevent carrying large amounts of cash when traveling
to Ecuador or any other foreign country. Thanks,
Mike Ryan
San Diego, CaliforniaMay 3, 2015 at 12:59 pm in reply to: Can ATM, Credit Cards and Debit Cards from Amercian Banks Be Used in Ecuador ?? #611187MICHAEL R.MemberHello Don Matthews
I spoke to my bank and they said to continue having your Social Security sent to the your local bank in the USA, then just use your debit/ATM card or use a credit card in Ecuador to access your SS account in the USA. You don’t need to have your Social Security sent to an Ecuador bank. When you go to Ecuador take at least 4 or 5 thousand dollars with you in Traveler Checks or International Money Orders, then start a new bank account in a local bank in your new town or city in Ecuador.
Good Luck,
Mike Ryan

Thanks for the great information, I can afford more than $1000, but I wanted to use the rest of my retirement funds for
travel and as a cushion for unexpected costs or if any emergency should arise. Thanks Again,

San Diego, Calif.MICHAEL R.MemberHello Kaye
I would suggest spending 5 days in the mountain cities and villages like Cotacachi, Cuenca and Loja (you will love Loja).
Then go to Manta on the coast and travel south to Salinas. If you still have time, you can try going to Guayaquil.Good Luck and Have A Fun Trip,
Mike Ryan
