MICHEAL LEVINEParticipant
Hello,
I don’t know why the built-in button labelled “link” never works for me, but here is a second try:
I received a request to sign this petition. A gold mining company was denied permission to operate in CR due to its potential destruction of the pristine natural surroundings that we all treasure. The mining company is now suing CR for $1 Billion.
If you are as enamored as I am with the natural beauty in Costa Rica, you may want to consider signing the petition and sending to others who care.

Pura vida,

As Jason points out, you need an unlocked phone to be able to use the SIM card you are going to buy in the airport or elsewhere in CR.
However, not all unlocked GSM phones will work satisfactorily everywhere in CR. I came to CR this summer with an unlocked (tri-band) GSM phone, and it worked in the Central Valley. Elsewhere (Southern Pacific) it was useless. I learned that the newer systems in CR run on frequencies which are only served by quad-band phones. [I should thank Margaret Summerfield for explaining this to me.] I had used this same phone in CR 18 months ago and it worked fine.
Since then I have bought an unlocked Samsung GSM quad-band smart phone from Amazon for about $125, but it hasn’t yet been tested in CR.
MICHEAL LEVINEParticipantArrrgh! the built-in buttons don’t work for me. Try again:

MICHEAL LEVINEParticipantYou missed a great opportunity in not attending the Costa Rica Fast Track conference which was held in the first week of August (2013). There were opportunities to visit all kinds of housing – apartments, condos, villas, in a variety of locations in the Central Valley.
I would suggest you contact Roberto Muggli, RE/MAX broker in Atenas, to see if he can set up a private tour to suit your requirements. His cell phone is (506) 8721-8954 and landline is (506)2446-4929.
For the Southern Pacific, there are property tours running almost continuously. Look at
MICHEAL LEVINEParticipantYou have to get a new health certificate in CR within 10 days before you depart for the US. I presume this is in order to satisfy the US Dept of Agriculture’s requirement. My guess is that your dog will not be allowed on the plane without a health certificate. [See the US Embassy link posted by Jason Holland earlier in this thread.]
MICHEAL LEVINEParticipantSue —
The certificate of good health has to have been issued within 10 days of your entry to CR. Same is true when you take your pet back to the US.
MICHEAL LEVINEParticipantCan you explain how the the duty-free works? Can I bring anything I buy in the zone into CR without paying duty? Is there a limit to how much I can import into CR and how often?
