ParticipantYou may be able to find someone to trade these services with. I pay $10 a day for my cats but they may charge more for dogs.

ParticipantIf it is not on the police report it doesn’t need to be disclosed. It’s my understanding you get the report from the last/current place you live and it need to be done within 90 days of submitting the paperwork for your visa.

ParticipantHi Raymond, I’d definitely suggest you do the Otavalo market and Cotacachi on Saturday. Your hotel can make those arrangements for you or you can arrange it in advance through the folks at Nuevo Mundo Expeditions. Write to Julieta and/or Oswaldo (Julieta Muñoz: julieta@nuevomundoexpeditions.com or oswaldo@nuevomundoexpeditions.com) and they can help you. There are several different equator markers — one os simply a small marker that people stop and take photos with. The others are full-blow museums/theme destinations and are more popular with tourists. The larger of the two is Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World) and, right next door, the less polished Inti Nan — you could easily do both of these in one day. I am uncertain about prices, sometimes it depends if you go with a group or individually with a driver and guide. Julieta can quote you a price and it will likely be less than your hotel price. Having said that, the larger hotels will charge far more for tours than a hostel will. In Quito, I strongly recommend you take a guided tour of Old Town — don’t miss it.

ParticipantI always stay at a hostal called Hotel El Andino — the owners, Miguel and Paola, are super nice people They can send a drive to pick you up. It’s not “near” the airport but it’s not too far –You can email Miguel at HOTEL ANDINO Miguel Perez at migueangelperez@hotmail.com. It’s not a fancy place and costs maybe $35 a night, which includes your breakfast.
There is also a hotel right across for the airport, that looks fine — I have never stayed there, but have always thought it would be a good option. I’ll see if I can find the name of that one for you.

ParticipantI have seen scooters and bicycles for rent in the tourist town of Banos, but nowhere else. You can use your present drivers license.

ParticipantNo, we don’t worry about it in Quito or Cotacachi ether. A few years ago there was a major drought and since much of Ecuador’s power is hydro-generated, they did enforce some planned blackouts for a couple of weeks. But you always knew about these ahead of time and they only lasted a few hours so it wasn’t a big deal. And since then I think they brought more online so there have been no issues.

ParticipantHi Joel, I would not count on that. I’m pretty sure you’d have to go through the licensing process again, but why don’t you ask one of the attorneys in our Experts Section? They’ll know more about the jobs that can and cannot be filled by foreigners in Ecuador. You don’t say if you speak Spanish, but you would definitely need to be fluent.
