How Much Do Taxis Cost in France?

Sandra F. Says:

I’m going to be in Paris soon for a vacation. I am always wary of getting cabs overseas in case they inflate the fare when they hear my American accent. Do you have any advice for using cabs in Paris?

IL France Correspondent Tuula Rampont Says:

Hi Sandra,

Taxi fares in France are strictly controlled, and all cabs have meters. A typical taxi ride within Paris will cost around $20, and a ride from the center of Paris to Charles de Gaulle Airport will be around $65.

There are also a number of shuttle services that will transfer you to and from the airport for about half the cost of a taxi. The main company is ParisShuttle. Prices start at around $18, one-way, in a shuttle shared with three to four people. If you’re traveling light, the Roissy Bus to or from Charles de Gaulle Airport to Paris Opéra costs about $13. (Prices will be in euro.)

Taxi fares are more expensive in the evening and at night. Also note that some drivers, especially in Paris, aren’t prepared to let a passenger sit in the front seat, so don’t expect a taxi to accept more than three passengers.

Uber now has a strong presence in Paris, much to the chagrin of Parisian taxi drivers. While Uber is touted as being less expensive than regular taxis, this isn’t always true. Nonetheless, Uber has become an increasingly popular alternative to regular taxis because of its convenience.
