How Do I Find a Place to Share in Costa Rica?

Sattar M. Says:

I wish to explore Costa Rica by first sharing a space. Can you put me in touch with anyone who could help with this?

IL Costa Rica Correspondent Bekah Bottone Says:

Hi Sattar,

Facebook groups are the easiest way to make contact in Costa Rica. Of course, many scams are online, so you must trust your intuition and be thoughtful about online interactions.

In general, groups in specific areas are more helpful than the general expats in Costa Rica groups. People seem friendlier and more helpful in groups focusing on their particular community.

So before making any decisions, it’s essential to identify the areas that align with your preferences.

Researching the climate, cost of living, and healthcare options in different regions of Costa Rica can provide valuable insights and help you make an informed decision about where to start your new life.

You can find a list of all the areas of Costa Rica that we recommend right here. Simply scroll to the bottom for our City and Area Guide.

Once you have identified somewhere you like, it’s simply a matter of Googling “Your Choice Expat Facebook Group” and asking to join the one you find.

As for sharing a space, I suggest renting on Airbnb. You can rent an entire space or rent just a room. Renting for a month or longer usually makes the rental cheaper. It is always good to get into the places that interest you, and then, while on the ground, you can connect with people and get a feel for everyday life in that area.

Good luck with your search. I hope to see you down here for the Fast Track Costa Rica Conference in July! It is a great opportunity to learn more.
