Where Are We Going Next? This Month, You Decide

I have a question: Where should we go for you next?

The world’s opened up again after a long layoff. International Living’s suite of editors and correspondents are gazing meaningfully at their passports with a gleam in their eyes that reminds me of when a cat spies a goldfish in a low-brimmed bowl.

I’ll be meeting a bunch of them next week to plan the next few months of boots-on-the-ground reporting. IL spends millions of dollars on travel and research each year, but before a single ticket is booked, we need to decide where to go. And that’s where you come in. (It’s your magazine, after all.)

Some of it’s already on the books. In the works is a deep-dive mission to Portugal. We’re lining up several scouts to land there at the same time to cover every secret inch of the country…from hidden hill-towns in the interior to the best of the country’s 1,115 miles of glorious coastline… That’s one in the can.

What else? Well, how about sending our long-time contributor, Jason Holland, to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast? He ought to find the inside deal—after all, he used to live there.

And Kirsten and Mark Raccuia, who frequently wrote about their life in Malaysia for these pages, have just made the jump to Mexico. We’ll follow them in their adventure as they explore Mexico’s Riviera Maya to see how it stacks up as a new home base.

Me, I’m considering a trip to Panama to check out the city and the Pacific Riviera coast.
