What is dental care like in Panama?

IL Panama Editor Jessica Ramesch Says:

Hello Mohan,

Panama has excellent dentists and dental clinics. In Panama City and hub towns across the country, you can generally find quality English-speaking dentists. My experiences have been stellar… I’ve had a root canal, a wisdom tooth removed, fillings, cleanings, and even minor gum surgery prior to getting a crown.

One big difference between dental care in Panama and the U.S is its affordability. Another is that dentists in Panama don’t use laughing gas. That said, I’ve never found them to be stingy with injectable anesthesia.

I recently moved from Panama City to the upscale beach community of Coronado, and quickly found several local dentists with excellent reputations among the expat crowd. For two appointments and a filling I paid $100. My new dentist sat with me for a good 20 minutes before we got started, asking me about my life and any potential sources of stress.

You save big money on big ticket items here, as well.

My fellow Panama expat and IL Contributor Jim Gault was on a visit to the U.S. when he broke a two-tooth dental bridge. The dentist there said the cost for oral surgery for an implant and a new crown would be about $4,000.

Instead of staying and having the work done there, Jim returned to Panama. Through the expat grapevine, he found a dentist in Panama City who quoted $2,000 for the work (and Jim didn’t have to wait months… in one week, he was starting the first phase of the treatment plan).

Jim and I will both be on-hand to discuss all things Panama at the IL conference taking place in Panama City this weekend. What’s cool is that you can still join us… Live, from the comfort of your living room via Fast Track Panama ON DEMAND.

There’s still time to secure your spot, as long as you sign up here before midnight tonight, February 10.
