David S. Says:
I am 85 years old and my wife is 74. We’re in good health and receive Social Security of $3,000 a month. Where can we live with this income? We have two children and grandchildren here in the U.S. and we don’t want to live too far away.
IL Mexico Correspondent Bel Woodhouse Says:
Hi David,
Mexico, especially in the Mexican Caribbean where I am, is a great place to live. It shares the same lower cost of living as the rest of Mexico, which means you can live comfortably on $3,000 per month.
This region, the Rivera Maya, is also full of fun things to do that the kids and grandkids will look forward to and want to visit again and again.
Cancun International Airport is close to all the towns listed below and has all major U.S. airlines flying in and out almost hourly, so it’s easy to get a flight home if needed. Also, it’s very close which means you are back in the U.S. (depending on where you want to go) in a couple of hours.
The main places I would recommend looking at where you can live comfortably on $3,000 a month would be Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres, Cozumel and Puerto Morelos. All are great options and if you’re interested in the rest of Mexico, then I would recommend checking out our full destination guide to Mexico. All of the locations are listed at the bottom of that Mexico page—so just scroll down and find the place you’re interested in, then click on it and you will be able to read about each one.
