Where Should We Stay While Visiting France?

Giselle O. Says:

Hello, Tuula:

As an International Living member, I (and my partner) have enjoyed the information you’ve provided about France through the IL magazine.

We love St. Remy de Provence, as well as the surrounding area, and will be there next month into May. Do you have any recommendations on other rentals there, or in the nearby Luberon towns and “plus beaux villages” of interior Provence?

After reviewing your articles and videos, we now plan to also visit Sarlat-la-Caneda in Dordogne, and would like to check out other interesting retirement possibilities between Aix-en-Provence and Nice, such as Cotignac. We’d sure appreciate any suggestions on where to stay in any of these locations.

IL France Correspondent Tuula Rampont Says:

Hello Giselle,

It’s nice to hear from you, and I’m really happy that you found the information on France helpful.

Those are all wonderful locations to think about for retirement, especially St. Rémy, Aix-en-Provence, and Cotignac.

I also really love the Dordogne, and I will be visiting the region again this coming July. The best thing is that there is already a really great expat community of Americans, and other English speakers.

If you have a chance, you can join the Americans Living the Dream Facebook group based in the Dordogne. My friend Cecile is the administrator, and will be happy to point you in the right direction for rentals. There are many other American expats on the page already, who can also give you good advice for the area.

For rentals in St. Rémy and around Provence you could have a look at the Morning Croissant website.

For Cotignac, a local resident, American Susana Iwase, has a Village Home to rent in the center of town. You can contact her at: provencelivingconsulting@gmail.com.

I hope that’s helpful! Happy trip planning.
