    Hello!
My husband and I completing the purchase of our condo in Playa Del Carmen late this summer. We’re from Canada and although we would like to do a roaming retirement internationally, we are not interested in moving to Mexico in the near future.
However, we were wondering if it would be wise to get a temporary or permanent resident visa at this time. We believe there might be benefits, tax-wise (perhaps a break on how much of our Mexican rental income is taxed? Or maybe capital gains tax if we sell?)
We were also wondering if there are any timing considerations. Ted, hearing your response to another post, where you shared that we’d have 180 days to enter Mexico to activate our visa, was really helpful! And how about this: is there any benefit to us trying to arrange a visa before we complete our final purchase of our condo this summer? Would the purchase of our condo help streamline the visa process or be a factor in our approval, and if so, should it be done in tandem, instead?
We would greatly appreciate any and all insight we can get. We’d love some advice, too!
Thank you, fellow travelers and expats!
    Danielle
