You’ll love exploring sites like the palatial 19th-century Palácio de Bolsa. Formerly a stock market, it was built to impress potential European investors, and it will surely impress you, too. All this history, along with an abundance of chic restaurants, hip hotels, and classically luxurious abodes, makes Porto a truly world-class city.
From Porto, we’ll hug the Silver Coast as we head south to Lisbon, through the wine region with breathtaking landscape views, medieval villages, and ancient castles in the distance. Aveiro is a must-see stop along the way, famed for its spectacular seafood, colorful waterfront promenade, and meandering canals…ala Venice…even traversed by Portuguese gondolas called moliceiros.

We’ll stroll through the cozy streets of the Alfama neighborhood where you can dive into one of the small bars for a glass of wine, port, or Ginja liqueur, accompanied by the melodic and melancholic sounds of fado, a hauntingly soulful musical genre that traces back hundreds of years.

Sintra may be the most romantic village in Portugal, with fantastic palaces, ancient castles, and 19th-century mansions nestled in the forest. A source of inspiration for literary figures like Lord Byron, Sintra may bring out the poet in you, too, and you may never want to leave. That’s happened to more than a few expats, including pop star Madonna who lives in a majestic 18thcentury hilltop estate here.
Cascais is just as magical. A traditional and charming Portuguese fishing town responsibly transformed into a popular resort town, Cascais was once the summer retreat of Portuguese nobility. You’ll love the pretty beaches, amazing restaurants, and shopping… More than a few expats have chosen to live here, including International Living financial editor Jeff Opdyke, whom you’ll meet at the conference.
Estoril, too, is popular with foreign residents and surfers who love its beautiful beaches, pounding waves, its famous casino, wonderful golf courses…even a motor-racing circuit.
Our final day of the tour finds us journeying to the Algarve where the International Living Fast Track Europe Conference will be held at the luxury beachfront Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort.

Sunday, April 7 — Porto
Welcome to Portugal!
We’ll start our tour in Porto. Once you arrive into Porto make your way to our fabulous hotel located on the river bank. In the late afternoon, we’ll gather for a casual walking tour of the Old Town before returning to the hotel, where we’ll enjoy a welcome drink together. Dinner is on your own this evening.

Day 3
Monday, April 8 — Porto
Breakfast is included at your leisure in the hotel.
Today, we’ll follow the route of Portugal’s ancient wine merchants as we embark on a classic “Six Bridges” cruise of the Douro River. We’ll learn about the histories of the iconic bridges we pass beneath and the stunning architectural buildings that line the riverbanks of the historic Ribeira and Villa Nova de Gaia quarters. And of course, we’ll stop at a famous wine cave, where you have the option to taste the delicious namesake Port wine. Afterwards, we’ll explore more of the Gaia neighborhood, known for its wine cellars, sidewalk cafes, shops, a 17th century monastery—the Mosteiro da Serra de Pilar—and the palm-shaded gardens of the Jardim do Morro. You’ll have time to enjoy lunch (on your own) here if you like.
Dinner will be at the Brasão Bistrô, famous for authentic Portuguese fare and, of course…wine.

Day 4*
Tuesday, April 9 — Travel to Lisbon with a stop in Aveiro
Breakfast is included at your leisure in the hotel.
We’ll travel by plush, luxury coach one hour to Aveiro. Known as the “Venice of Portugal,” it’s a bustling Atlantic coastal city of stunning beaches and crisscrossing canals traversed by rainbow-hued Moliceiro boats.
You’ll get a chance to try the famous ovos moles de Aveiro—a tart-like pastry shaped like a seashell and wander the charming Old Town lanes, lined by Art Nouveau façades. Famous landmarks include the Aveiro Cathedral, the São Gonçalinho Chapel and the Convento de Jesus.
Enjoy lunch on your own at the Forum Aveiro or the colorful Central Market, after which we’ll continue to Lisbon where we’ll check into the beautifully appointed Hotel H10 Duque de Loule 4—one of Lisbon’s best hotels. Located near the Marques de Pombal Square, you’ll enjoy exploring the city’s historic center this evening.
Dinner this evening will be in the dining room of the hotel.

Wednesday, April 10 — Sintra, Cascais, and Estoril

A day of glorious sightseeing will first take us to Sintra, a popular expat destination thanks to its proximity to Lisbon and its stunning coastal setting. Dotted with villas, royal palaces, and 8th century castles, poet Lord Byron described it as the most beautiful village in the world. Our guided tour will take us to some of the city’s top attractions and you’ll have time to explore the many artisan shops before our lunch stop at the historic Café Central, opposite the Royal Palace. Then it’s on to the seaside towns of Cascais and Estoril, also expat-favored destinations, home to charming beach resorts and more.
Our group dinner this evening will be at Cervejaria Trinidade, one of Portugal’s most beautiful, historic breweries.

Day 6
Thursday, April 11 — Depart Lisbon (with a stop in Sétubal) for the Algarve and the International Living conference resort.

We depart for the Algarve, with a stop at Sétubal’s Quinta da Bacalhôa Palace, resplendent with the medieval art and colorful tiles Portugal is known for. The palace gardens were first designed in 16th-century Renaissance times and are whimsically dotted with stones, fountains, statues and pavilions. We’ll enjoy a 3-course lunch and a wine tasting at José Maria da Fonseca, one of the area’s best restaurants and wine cellars.
After lunch, we’ll depart for the Algarve and the Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort in Albufeira, known for its sunny Mediterranean climate and truly stunning beaches. This concludes our tour.

We’ll start in Seville, one of Spain’s most beautiful and vibrant cities, home to a people who embrace, as the New York Times put it, an “intense lust for life.”
Centuries of explorers, from the Romans to the Moors, have contributed to this city’s spectacular culture and spirit, where tapas bars line the streets, and the warm Spanish sun sustains lush palm-filled parks.
The birthplace of Spain’s most famous poets and home to the country’s famed flamenco culture, our visit will coincide with the renowned and not-too-be-missed annual Feria de Sevilla—a bucket-list, once-in-a-lifetime event.
Hotel reservations in Seville this time of year are almost impossible to come by. But we’ve managed to secure space for our group in one of the city’s finest hotels…and you can be sure you’ll see the best of this spectacular event…colorful flamenco performances, prancing Andalusian horses, pop-up tents offering delectable tapas, wine, and more.
We will also enjoy one of the “must do” events in this part of Spain: a visit to Jerez de la Frontera for a performance of the renowned Andalusian horses at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art, and lunch at the iconic Tio Pepe.
From Seville, we’ll head east with a visit along the way to enchanting Ronda, the dramatic setting for Ernest Hemingway’s novel, For Whom the Bell Tolls. We’ll explore its Old Town streets, flower-filled squares full of cafes and restaurants, and peek into the 300-foot-deep El Tajo Gorge that runs through the middle of town, spanned by a Moorish-style bridge, completed in 1793.
Then we will head south to the Costa del Sol and the white-washed city of Marbella, at the foot of the Sierra Blanca hills—the anchor of Spain’s “Golden Corridor,” the celebrated Mediterranean playground of splashy resorts and world-class golf courses.
Often thought of as a playground for the rich and famous, Marbella’s yacht-filled harbor, exclusive nightclubs, and Michelin-star restaurants attract plenty of glitterati.
But you needn’t be swimming in cash to enjoy this town. The ancient quarter, in particular, is worth your attention. In its winding cobbled-stone alleys, you’ll find plenty of photo opportunities amongst the Gothic and Renaissance buildings—including the 15th century Chapel of Santiago. This is a great neighborhood to grab a table at a sidewalk café, order a glass of Sangria, and simply people watch.
Or, just bask in the Mediterranean sun along the shimmering blue coastline. A popular promenade is lined with beachside bars, shops, and seafood restaurants.
While in Marbella you will have a chance to join Always Marbella Real Estate company for a brief presentation about Spain property and real estate options available to you in the Costa del Sol.
Next stop is Málaga, with a visit along the way to Mijas. A charming, white-washed city, Mijas was founded by the Moors in the 8th century.
Málaga is the birthplace of Picasso and home of the colorful glass cube that is the Pompidou Museum, near the famous Marques de Larios Street, a no-cars promenade lined with fashionable shops and traditional ice cream shops (try the leche merengada, a delicious cinnamon concoction).
The Cathedral of Málaga (called “little one-arm” since one of its towers was never built) is a photographer’s dream, as is the Alcazaba—an Arab fortress built in the 9th century, with a peaceful green oasis within…a protected space of leafy vegetation and water-filled canals.
You’ll also spend a full day visiting the famous Palace of Alhambra in the nearby city of Granada, with its impressive Arab quarter of cloisters, citadels, hidden courtyards, and half-forgotten churches.
One of the most dramatic and iconic locations in Spain, beneath the magnificent snowcapped peaks of the Sierra Nevada, the Alhambra dates back to the 13th century, serving as the palace-fortress of the Nasrid Sultans, last rulers of the Spanish Muslim Kingdom.
With a knowledgeable guide and historian, we’ll explore its three distinct sites—the Casa Real (Royal Palace), the palace gardens of the Generalife and the Alcazaba with its stunning Torre de la Vela and spectacular views—truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Day 1 Monday, April 15 — Algarve to Seville
Breakfast is at your leisure at the Grande Real Santa Eulália Resort if you have booked your stay there for the International Living Conference.
This morning we’ll depart by private luxury coach, heading eastward through the Algarve countryside to Spain and Seville, the capital of Andalusia, where we’ll enjoy an authentic tapas lunch and a walking tour of southern Spain’s most beautiful cities. Two sights on our tour you’ll especially enjoy are the Real Alcázar…the royal palace that traces its roots to the year 712…and the Catedral de Sevilla—the world’s largest gothic cathedral.
We’ll check into our luxury hotel, with time to rest, relax, and get ready for a treat—a visit to the Museum of Flamenco to enjoy a lively flamenco performance before dinner at the fabulous Casa Robles, known for impeccable service and excellent local fare.

Day 2 Tuesday, April 16 — Seville
Breakfast is at your leisure in the hotel.
One “must do” in this part of Spain is a visit to Jerez de la Frontera for a performance of the renowned Andalusian horses at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. We’ll follow that with lunch at the famous Bodega Tio Pepe, home to Spain’s finest aged sherries and brandies.
After a welcome rest at the hotel, we’ll head for Plaza España and the Festival Feria de Abril. We’re extraordinarily fortunate our visit coincides with this world-famous Flamenco Festival, the most colorful festival in all of Spain. Locals will be adorned in the traje de gitana, the Andalusian typical dress; you’ll witness the colorful parade of horse-pulled carriages, and of course, flamenco performances the likes of which you’ll not see anywhere else.

Day 3 Wednesday, April 17 — Explore the Costa del Sol and on to Marbella
Breakfast is at your leisure in the hotel.
We’ll journey to the famous Costa del Sol, making a stop in the fabled mountaintop city of Ronda, the City of Dreams. Perched dramatically above the deep El Tajo gorge that separates the city’s circa-15th-century “new town” from its 8th-century Moorish old town, our tour will take us across the Puente Nuevo bridge spanning the gorge and past the legendary Plaza de Toros, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks.
Lunch will be at another famous landmark, the scenic Parador Nacional de Ronda, after which we’ll be on our way to Marbella for check-in at our fabulous hotel, steps from the famous Golden Mile beachfront promenade.

Day 5 Friday, April 19 — On to Málaga via Mijas

About an hour from Marbella, we’ll stop in the charming, white-washed city of Mijas, founded by the Moors in the 8th century. We will have time here to explore its Arab-influenced winding lanes and we’ll enjoy lunch together before traveling on to Málaga, where we’ll stay in one of the city’s best hotels, near the city’s famous esplanade.

Day 6 Saturday, April 20 — Málaga

Day 7 Sunday, April 21 — Tour of Granada and the Iconic Alhambra

No trip to this part of Spain is complete without a trip to the mystical city of Granada and the dramatic Alhambra, the only surviving palatine city and ancient palace of the Nasrid Sultans, rulers of the last Spanish Muslim Kingdom. On this day-long tour, we’ll enjoy a lunch at Estrella de San Nicolas, known for its excellent food and eye-popping views of the Alhambra. After that, we’ll enjoy a guided tour of the glorious 35-acre maze of the romantic, red-walled palace, its medina and stunning gardens, studded by shady cypress trees and Aleppo pines. One of the world’s best-preserved and romantic sites, you’ll walk in the footsteps of emirs, sultans, King Ferdinand, Queen Isabella, Christopher Columbus, and other notorious historic figures.
This is sure to be a memorable once-in-a-lifetime excursion, capped by our final dinner together at Málaga’s Michelin-starred José Carlos García restaurant, a true culinary experience.

If you are traveling alone and wish to share a room with another participant, we will try to find a roommate for you, although we cannot guarantee a match.

Tour Registration
Early reservations are recommended since our group size is limited – airline/hotel blocks are limited and often sell out of their best fares/rates months in advance.
We accept VISA, MC, AMEX, Discover, ACH bank transfers or wire transfers. If you are paying by credit card, the charge will appear on your billing statement as payable to Opportunity Travel LLC.
All communications related to your registration will be with Opportunity Travel via email and telephone.

Cancellation Policies: all cancellation policies are listed in your ticket type at the time of registration.
Cancellation by Opportunity Travel (“OT”)
The Portugal and Spain Opportunity Travel (“OT”) tours are completely non-refundable. If you cancel due to medical reasons that are covered by your purchased travel-insurance policy, we will advise the insurance company that your travel and tour fees are non-refundable. Rates are based on group participation and no refunds or allowances will be made for absence during the tour, or for activities missed, even if for causes beyond the control of the participant.
Opportunity Travel (“OT”), reserves the right to cancel any trip prior to departure for any reason whatsoever, including logistical problems that may impede trip operations.
“OT” must make substantial payments to its suppliers (hotels, transportation companies, etc.) far in advance of the scheduled embarkation date. If a trip is cancelled due to acts of God, war, terrorism, labor strikes, earthquake, flooding, disease, etc., “OT” will promptly refund the portion of the trip cost not already advanced to suppliers and use its best efforts to recover and refund the balance as promptly as possible.
However, “OT” does not guarantee recovery of any or all of the advance payments made, and our use of best efforts to recover these payments will not include the institution of any legal proceedings in foreign jurisdictions.
If we are forced to cancel part or any of the tours due to Force Majeure (including war or terrorism), OT will make every effort to collect refunds from tour companies, hotels, transportation companies and tour operators. But we cannot guarantee any refunds will be given. We highly recommend that you take out cancel for any reason travel insurance or check with your credit card company to see if they offer travel insurance.
Responsibility & Limited Liability:
By agreeing to the Terms & Conditions represents your acceptance of the following terms and conditions:
The responsibility of Opportunity Travel (“OT”) is limited. “OT” gives notice that services provided in connection with its itineraries, including transportation, hotel accommodations, restaurants, and other services, are purchased from various independent suppliers who are not affiliated with “OT”.
Although it endeavors to choose the best suppliers available, “OT” has no right to control their operations and therefore makes these travel arrangements upon the express condition that “OT” and its own agents and employees shall not be liable for any delay, mishap, inconvenience, expense, irregularity, bodily injury or death to person, or damage to property occasioned through the conduct or default of any company or individual engaged in providing these services.
Each of these passenger conveyance companies, tour companies, hotels, restaurants, etc. is subject to the laws of the state or country where the service is provided.
“OT” shall not be liable for: (a) expenses such as additional hotel nights and meals not specified in the individual trip itineraries that may be required either enroute, prior to, or following a trip, when caused by individual clients’ travel arrangements, by airline scheduling or airline schedule changes, cancelled flights, missed flight connections, or by other factors not under “OT” control; (b) expenses incurred in recovering luggage lost by airlines, belongings left behind on a trip, or in shipping purchases or other goods home from abroad; (c) bodily injury or property damage for any reason, including but not limited to acts of God, weather, quarantines, strikes, civil disturbance, theft, default, detention, annoyance, changes in government regulations, terrorism, war, or failure of conveyance to arrive or depart as scheduled, etc., over which it “OT” has no control.
“OT” and its respective parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, successors and assigns reserves the universal and perpetual right and license to use, publish, and copyright my voice, picture, portrait, personal characteristics, likeness, and any other personal identification in all media and types of editorials, advertising, and promotion of products and/or services associated with OT as it deems appropriate.
“OT” reserves the right to substitute both trip leaders and hotels from those listed in our promotion without notice. If improvements in the itinerary can be made, or unforeseen conditions beyond “OT’s” control make changes necessary, they reserve the right to alter itineraries or substitute speakers without penalty.
“OT” reserves the right to decline to accept or to restrain from further participation any person it judges to be incapable of meeting the rigors and requirements of participating in the activities, or any person whose actions or deportment impede trip operation or the rights, welfare, or enjoyment of other trip members. A refund based on the cost of unused services is the limit of “OT” responsibility in such a case.
The issuance and acceptance of vouchers or tickets shall be considered consent of the above conditions. By joining our conferences or tours you are assuming all risks and agreeing to indemnify “OT”, our partner organizations, their officers, directors, and employees harmless for any and all liability that may arise in connection with your participation in an “OT” conference or tour.
WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO INCREASE THE PROGRAM PRICE IF CURRENCY FLUCTUATIONS
NECESSITATE IT. THE SUBMISSION OF YOUR CONFIRMATION FORM AND PAYMENT IS ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF ALL TERMS AND CONDITIONS, INCLUDING CANCELLATION PENALTIES, AS STATED WITHIN THIS TEXT.
ASSUMPTION OF RISKS
Opportunity Travel (“OT”) sets the guidelines for the meetings and events within their contracted space.
By agreeing to the Terms & Conditions, I understand that while Opportunity Travel (“OT”) has undertaken reasonable steps to lessen the risk of transmission of COVID-19 in connection with the Event, is not responsible in any manner for any risks related to COVID-19 in connection with the Event. I understand that the World Health Organization has classified the COVID-19 outbreak as a pandemic. I further understand that COVID-19 is a highly contagious and dangerous disease, and that contact with the virus that causes COVID19 may result in significant personal injury or death. I am fully aware that participation in the Event (including any related travel) carries with it certain inherent risks related to COVID-19 transmission (“Inherent Risks”) that cannot be eliminated regardless of the care taken to avoid such risks. Inherent Risks may include, but are not limited to, (1) the risk of coming into close contact with individuals or objects that may be carrying COVID-19; (2) the risk of transmitting or contracting COVID-19, directly or indirectly, to or from other individuals; and (3) injuries and complications ranging in severity from minor to catastrophic, including death, resulting directly or indirectly from COVID-19 or the treatment thereof. Further, I understand that the risks of COVID-19 are not fully understood, and that contact with, or transmission of, COVID-19 may result in risks including but not limited to loss, personal injury, sickness, death, damage, and expense, the exact nature of which are not currently ascertainable, and all of which are to be considered Inherent Risks. I hereby voluntarily accept and assume all risk of loss, personal injury, sickness, death, damage, and expense (extra hotel nights, airline change fees, etc.) arising from such Inherent Risks. Furthermore, I represent and warrant that I do not suffer from any medical condition or disease that might in any way hinder or prevent me from receiving the Event, including, to my knowledge, COVID-19. By attending the event, you and any guests voluntarily assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19 and agree not to hold “OT”; any partners or third-party vendors liable for any illness or injury.
While participating in events held by the “OT”, consistent with CDC guidelines, participants are encouraged to practice hand hygiene and “social distancing”. Facial coverings are recommended for all visitors regardless of vaccination status but are not required.
This Terms and Conditions shall be binding on my heirs, executors, administrators, successors, and assigns. I expressly agree that this Agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as is permitted by applicable laws, and that if any portion of this Agreement is found to be void or unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect. This Agreement contains the entire understanding of the parties relating to the subject matter, and shall not be altered, modified, amended, waived or supplemented in any manner whatsoever except by a written agreement signed by both parties hereto or their duly authorized representatives. This Agreement may be executed, made and delivered electronically. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I (a) covenant and agree not to elect a trial by jury with respect to any issue arising out of this Agreement or the Event that is triable of right by a jury, and (b) waive any right to trial by jury with respect to such issue to the extent that any such right exists now or in the future. This waiver of right to trial by jury is given knowingly and voluntarily. I have read and understood this Agreement and enter into it voluntarily in consideration of the opportunity to participate in the Event. I acknowledge I am giving up legal rights and/or remedies which may be available to me.
Limitations & Participant Responsibility:
Please realize that while traveling and attending our conferences and/or tours you will encounter many cultural and geographical differences such as ethnic foods, changes in altitude and weather.
At times our events can be physically demanding and may require climbing stairs and extensive walking. We try to stay at the best or most accommodating hotels in each area, but at times we may run into hotels with problems or limitations such as weak water pressure, limited or no hot water, lack of elevators and handicap facilities and no non-smoking rooms.
Participants have the responsibility to select a trip appropriate to their abilities and interests. We are happy to discuss our tours with you, as well as provide you with names of past participants who can discuss their experiences with you.
Participants are held responsible for being in sufficient good health to undertake the trip and are responsible for preparing for the trip by studying the itinerary and pre-departure information packets sent by “OT”.
Community Guidelines
“OT” enforces the following community guidelines for the benefit and enjoyment of all participants, including attendees, speakers, sponsors, vendors, and staff.
Non-Solicitation
Event participants may not engage in solicitation at any event, with the exception of sponsoring exhibitors, but only where the activities fall within an active sponsorship agreement.
Spam
The posting of spam—including but not limited to excessive, repetitive, or untargeted content—in all forms (such as videos, comments, or chat) is prohibited.
Impersonation
Content intended to originate from another source is prohibited.
Language
‘OT’ may deem some language in violation of the Community Guidelines. Examples of language violations include but are not limited to:
- profanity
- vulgarity
- sexually explicit language
- threats or references to violent behavior
- Disruptive Behavior
Any behavior deemed disruptive to the functioning of an event or that detracts from the enjoyment or utility of an event by its participants, including attendees and sponsors, is prohibited.
Recording Devices
Use of recording devices at any event—whether for replay or livestream or other use, including for distributive use—is strictly prohibited.
