Imagine living in Cambodia and waking up one morning to find out that your bank has gone bust. I’m not talking about my bank in Cambodia. The “too-big-to-fail” bank in question was one of the largest in the world, and I’d banked there for nearly two decades back in the U.K.
New Yorker Jake Wolfe, 65, is at his happiest when exploring ancient temples in Cambodia’s remote countryside. “There is a saying that you should ‘see Angkor Wat and die,’ which means it is an amazing place to visit at least once in your life. It is actually the biggest group of temples in the world and nothing compares to it,” he says of the Southeast Asian country’s most famous ruins.
Living in Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s historic capital, Eric Ortega can afford luxuries he never could at home. “Every day I follow a relaxed routine, starting with breakfast at one of the coffee shops near my home, where I read the local English newspaper and enjoy coffee with a muffin."
"This is the top beach destination in Cambodia…the beaches are beautiful and there are tons of islands, but we also have our own city center, so there is good accessibility to things like banks, internet, shops, and restaurants,” says expat Mick Anderson.
